Denmark's national gallery, SMK houses the country's most comprehensive art collection, spanning seven centuries from the Renaissance to the present day. Strengths include Dutch and Flemish Old Masters, the Danish Golden Age painters of the 19th century, and a growing collection of contemporary work. The grand building, situated in the museum quarter near Rosenborg Castle, was expanded with a modern wing in 1998.
