Degas’ Obsession centers on Edgar Degas’ Dancers Practising in the Foyer from the Glyptotek’s French collection. New technical analyses indicate that Degas began the painting earlier than previously believed and reworked it over nearly 30 years. Research also uncovered an overpainted dancer and up to 14 paint layers, revealing repeated scraping, repainting and compositional revision. The exhibition invites visitors into the methods of scientific and technical art history....
