Abstract Expressionism

Armenian-American painter who bridged European Surrealism and the emerging New York abstract scene of the 1940s. Having emigrated from Armenia in 1920, Gorky developed a fluid, emotionally charged painterly language that absorbed Picasso and Miró before arriving at deeply personal canvases that directly influenced the Abstract Expressionist generation that followed.
