Scottish painter whose atmospheric canvases construct dreamlike scenes from memory, found photographs, and film stills: figures at the margins of forests, skaters crossing frozen lakes, silhouettes on dark water. Doig's work inhabits a deliberate temporal uncertainty, bringing a quality of suspended narrative and melancholy to contemporary figurative painting.
