Chiharu Shiota

Contemporary Art
Japanese installation artist based in Berlin whose large-scale environments of black or red thread fill rooms with symbolic objects: dresses, keys, suitcases, boats. Working since the 1990s, Shiota uses labour-intensive accumulation to create immersive spaces exploring memory, loss, and human connection. Her installation at the 2015 Venice Biennale brought international attention.
