Swedish-American Pop artist who made his name with soft vinyl sculptures of hard objects, collapsing typewriters and toilets into limp, deflated forms. Later monumental public works including Clothespin and Shuttlecocks transformed mundane consumer objects into colossal civic monuments, combining comedy with genuine sculptural intelligence.
