Dan Flavin

Minimalism

Minimalist artist who worked exclusively with commercially available fluorescent light fittings, arranging standard tubes in corners, along walls, and in diagonal runs. Flavin's installations, developed from the early 1960s, transformed gallery spaces through coloured light rather than sculptural mass, making him a key figure in the development of Minimalism.
