Daniel Buren (born 1938, Paris) is a French conceptual artist best known for his signature 8.7cm alternating stripe motif, which he has deployed in situ across galleries, museums, public spaces and printed matter since the late 1960s. A founding member of the BMPT group, his work interrogates the conditions and conventions of art display. His installations span the Centre Pompidou, the Guggenheim, and the Palais Royal, Paris.
